Itinerary:

This is a one night backpacking trip to Panthertown Valley. The plan is to leave Atlanta on Saturday morning at 7AM. MikeP. may head over there Friday morning to secure a camp site.  If you are inteterested in going Friday contact MikeP.

The hike from the trail head to the campsite is approximately 1.5 to 2 miles downhill. We will set up our camp near the Tuckasegee River just past the Sandbar Pool (pictured above).

On Saturday, after settling into camp, we will do a day hike that is approximately 8 miles with 1000’ in elevation gain. You can also choose to sleep in and relax in camp.

Saturday evening will include the fellowship and camaraderie that are hallmarks of AOC events.

On Sunday we can have a leisurely breakfast and pack up for the trek out.  I would not expect us to leave camp before 10:00am, maybe even as late as 11:00am.

A stop at Cornucopia in Cashiers for lunch on the way home will be an option.

Be advised that this is Fall backpacking, so please be sure you have appropriate gear.  Average highs for the area are in the mid 50's °F and lows are in the mid 30's °F. (http://www.usclimatedata.com)

Number of dogs is limited to 2, and there will already be one dog, Cedar, attending the event.   See Additional Notes regarding dogs.
