Decatur cemetery and surroundings, and optional refreshments

Come join me in a walk through the historic Decatur cemetery and surrounding neighborhoods, with an optional stop at the world-famous Brick Store Pub before walking the .4 miles back to our cars. We will see the "Old Sycamore" neighborhood, one of the oldest cemeteries in Atlanta containing graves dating back to the Revolutionary War, at least three city champion trees, and Glenlake Park. We will pass through the Great Lakes and Vidal/Lamont neighborhoods before heading to the Decatur Square on Ponce de Leon. At the square we will have an optional stop at the Brick Store Pub for refreshments before heading down Sycamore Street back to Old Sycamore neighborhood and to our cars. 

While I am very familiar with this area—I lived on Sycamore Street for over 20 years—I'm marking this as exploratory because I've not done this exact route before. Because of this, I can't be sure exactly how long it will take. I've estimated it will take two hours, but if we stop in the cemetery much it might take longer. It will take about 10 minutes to walk from the Brick Store Pub down Sycamore Street to the Avondale Marta station where we will park.

We will park at the Avondale Marta station's North lot on Sycamore Street at Ponce de Leon. For your GPS use:

Park in the lower lot on the right as you face the station. It is easiest to enter from the Sycamore Street side of the station, where we will meet.
