Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue. This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary. | |||||||
Itinerary: | |||||||
Discover the allure of Lake Titicaca on this trip that takes you from La Paz to idyllic Isla del Sol (Sun Island) and back in two days. With the towering peaks of the Cordillera Real as a backdrop, the striking blue waters of Lake Titicaca will leave you in awe as you take in the views from the place deemed sacred in Inca history. This trip is not to be missed if you are a fond of jaw-dropping nature and authentic culture. Day 1: May 4th Early pick up in La Paz. Private drive by minivan across the vast Altiplano en route to Lake Titicaca. On the way, enjoy scenic stops to contemplate the sapphire-blue waters of the lake and the snow peaks of Cordillera Real (Royal Mountain Range). Arrival in the town of Copacabana around 11 AM. Climb aboard our motorized boat and head for Isla del Sol traversing the scenic lake and enjoying the crisp air. Enjoy a tasty, traditional lunch with impressive views on the island upon arrival around 1 PM. After lunch, explore the ruins of Pilcocaina – a modest Incan temple with a lot of history and impressive views. Later in the afternoon, make your way to the northern part of the island** to explore the ruins of Chincana and the Sacred Rock, believed to be the birthplace of humanity in Incan lore. **At times when the northern part is not accessible due to weather conditions or social conflict as is the case beginning June 2017, we will visit the Moon Island instead. Reach your accommodation by the early evening and enjoy a tranquil evening while having dinner. Day 2: May 5th The second day of our trip will see us enjoying a moderate hike in the southern part of the island while we visit the Yumani village and its famous stairway. Home to the ‘fountain of youth’, the stairway provides unmatched opportunity to learn about ancient agricultural and cultural practices Later in the morning, arrive in the village of Yumani in order to board our boat back to the town of Copacabana where lunch will be waiting around 12 PM. After lunch, explore town around the main square where the impressive Cathedral of Copacabana lies. Learn about the fascinating history of town and the highly revered Virgen de Copacabana known for the miraculous powers attributed to her and for which hundreds of thousands of pilgrims flock to town from all over the continent. Make your way back to La Paz admiring the natural beauty of the region on the drive back. Arrive in town between 5 and 7 PM, traffic-dependent. We will drop you off back in your accommodation The Main event Will Be Salar Salt Flates posted on AOC events calender.
