Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue. This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.
Itinerary: | |||||||
This is an opportunity to explore the backcountry of two of the most iconic National Parks in America, Grand Tetons and nearby Yellowstone. Up to 8 experienced backpackers in good shape will traverse around 10 to 11 miles per day along mountain river valleys and over exhilarating passes. PICTURE ABOVE IS OF THE LAMAR VALLEY WILDERNESS IN REMOTE REGION OF YELLOWSTONE WHERE WE WILL BE BACKPACKING Thurs. August 24: Fly to Jackson Hole Wyoming and stay the night in a lodge. Fri. Aug. 25: Begin the one night, two day trek on the famous Paintbrush Canyon Cascade Canyon Loop Trail. This day will be approximately 11 miles before we make camp at Lake Solitude. Overnight backpacking requires permits (limited) so solitude is an appropriate name. Sat. Aug 26: Complete the trek (another 11 miles) along Cascade Canyon with Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point along the way. Spend the night in a lodge. Sun. Aug. 27. Hike the challenging 10 mile Amphatheater Lake trail (out and back) to get as close to the Grand and Middle Teton mountains as possible short of climbing them. Take a 30 mile bus ride to Yellowstone and stay at a hotel or lodge. Mon. Aug. 28. Visit Old Faithful, painted mud pots, etc., then procure a ride to north shore of Yellowstone Lake to camp for the night. Tues. Aug 29 - T hurs. Aug. 31. Backpack an amazing 33 mile Pelican Creek to Lamar Valley to see wildlife along rivers over 3 days and two nights. Ride back to Jackson Hole and stay the night. Fri. Sept. 1 Fly back to Atlanta Mosquitos and flies are minimal in late August, but still need bug spray. PARTICPANTS SHOULD BE IN FAIRLY GOOD SHAPE AND HAVE SOME BACKPACKING EXPERIENCE. CRITERIA FOR SELECTING PARTICIPANTS Time of sign up Strength of experience Activity in the club Low drama personality Fit within the group dynamic At signup time you will initially be placed on the waiting list. The group will be selected based on the above criteria and you will be added to the active roster and be given a link with which to pay. Once the attendee roster is published, we will give a time frame for attendees to pay. Failure to pay within the given timeframe will result in your removal from the active roster. There may be some changes to itinerary depending on availability of overnight accomodations and permits
