Wed, Mar 4 2015 - Rescheduled: Wednesday at Cloudland Canyon (View Original Event Details)
|
What an amazing place! This is the first time Ralph, myself, Jeff, and Diane have ever been to Cloudland Canyon. We were inspired by the first waterfall (Cherokee) with it's heavy flow, thunderous sounds, ancient hemlocks and probably close to 300 degree enclosure with high walls. The next waterfall seemed an optical illusion, was it the first falls or the second. Upon closure inspection, these falls (Hemlock) were every bit as interesting as the first. We continued along the Sitton Gulch Trail to the end, admiring the large boulders, the grey, green, blue - clear waters - which sounds wrong - but is every bit right. Our return took us up nearly all of the 1200 steps to the West Rim Trail. A quick stop at the yurt picnic tables for lunch and we continued on. With its many overviews of nearby towns and mountain vistas - you can understand why we were grinning so much.
These trails truly are among the best Georgia has to offer.
The weather held out quite nicely with a high of 67 degrees and plenty of sunshine, wind in our faces, and cool spray from the falls.
Thanks to John for being a informative hiking partner.
We left satisfied.
And we will come back!
