Why don't I cancel hikes the night before when bad weather is predicted? Because weather is fickle, and I really hate to lose the opportunity for a fine event, especially when it's our regular Thursday Island Ford hike. The snow and ice were totally gone on the trails at Island Ford, and the rain stopped hours before our hike began. We had some wet trails, but very little mud - - and with waterproof boots (which we all had) we didn't have any problems. I was amazed at how many "hard core" hikers stayed registered. How could I disappoint them?

Fourteen of us stayed for lunch today at the North River Tavern.  Most of the group needed their "hamburger special fix!"   ~  Joyce
