Write Up:We Dauset Trails adventurers had an unforgettable good time together on this 15th consecutive semi-annual AOC weekend retreat at this lovely place.
Saturday morning just after breakfast many of us enjoyed a leisurely walking excursion from our campsite to to the Nature Center's famous Wild Animal Trail, Museum, and demo Farm. Thanks to my friend Lyndsay Newton, a Zoo Atlanta professional and new AOC trip leader for hooking up with us during the day on Saturday and educating us about many of the amazing critters. Special thanks to our AOC President Joyce Taaffe for joining in the fun and for sharing her dozens of colorful photos with us. Simply click on "Photo Album" above to enjoy them!
A big pat on the back to CB, Dave, Robin and Joyce who did a fine job helping prepare and serve our big Sat evening spaghetti dinner! Kudos to everyone for bringing so much delicious food & refreshments to share - plus your nice camp stoves and other useful gear and supplies.
Thanks also to my friend and co-leader Kevin for doing a bang-up job organizing the mountain bike riding, campfire building and barbecue grilling. I'm esp. proud of all you bikers for enjoying so many miles of serious riding despite the drizzly conditions and muddy trails.
Despite about 0.2 inch of total of total precip over the weekend (in the form of very light sporadic showers) we took advantage of the fine shelter afforded by the Nature Center's spacious Dining Pavilion, "Turkey Roost sleeping structures," etc. and as expected we managed to stay quite comfortable and mostly dry. At times we felt lucky to see the bright almost-full "Super Moon" at night and lots of blue in the sky during the day. The 60s & 70s temperatures all weekend were delightful, with an occasional gentle breeze.
I hope many of you can join us for our next reserved AOC retreat at this wonderful place, scheduled for Mothers Day weekend, May 5-8, 2016.
