Sun, Jul 26 2015 - Kayak/Canoe the Hooch (Johnson Ferry to Paces Mill) (View Original Event Details)
|
Twelve of us met to paddle the Metro Hooch from Johnson Ferry to Paces Mill on Sunday. We had one first time AOCer, Dave, who was also on his maiden voyage with his kayak! Everyone did a great job and we had a wonderful paddle, spotting many blue heron, ducks, red-tailed hawks, a kingfisher, large fish, Canadian geese and other flora/fauna along the way.
The water in the river was clear and fast-moving, though slightly lower than in past weeks. We stopped, as usual, for a lunch break at Chattahoochee Bend apartments to visit their coffee shop and restrooms and sit down on the bank, along the water, as we ate our snacks/meals. The view of the river from there is really spectacular.
After our break, we ran through the series of small, but fun, rapids past the Palisades parks and crossed under I-75 before taking out at Paces Mill. Thanks to Toffor and Dave for helping with the shuttle and to everyone else for making this a fun paddle!
Also, thanks to Thomas for the photos! We hope to see everyone again soon. : )
