Sat, Dec 19 2015 - Springer Mountain via AT Approach Trail (View Original Event Details)
|
We followed the straight forward approach trail north towards Springer. We hit Frosty Mountain on the way. When we reached the top of Springer we saw that a southbounder had just completed his amazing AT journey. Tony shared some Biscoff and Mike shared some cheese during lunch...yum, yum. In calm wind, the warmth from the sun on this cloudless day was wonderful but on Springer, the wind was enough to get us all chilly. After a short lunch break we headed down and took the side trail to the Hike Inn, passing over Amicalola Mountain. On the way we met a park ranger from the NPS who was in the process of estimating the value of the trail. In my mind, all trials are priceless! At the Hike Inn we grabbed some snacks, drank some coffee and left some tips. What a nice bit of rejuvenation. We finished the day out at a quick pace back to the car. While Chuck and Hyacinth were our speed demons, everyone in our group are fast hikers. We finished up well before dinner time.
The numbers: 3600 feet of elevation and just under 17 miles
