Sat, Apr 9 2016 - AOC Survival Series: Introduction to Survival Skills (View Original Event Details)
|
Medicine Bow is a place tucked away from civilization where one can learn to become intimately acquainted with the natural world. We learned to make cordage, shelter, a one match fire, a container using fire, hand drill friction fire, and what various plants and trees can provide us for healing and nutrition. Mark Warren is a patient mentor eager to share his vast knowledge of the woods and how the Cherokees thrived in it.
We also had fun with team activities, hanging around the campfire, and sharing goodies. Overnight temperatures below freezing gave us a further education.. but we survived. :) Diana even brought extra 'Hot Pockets' for everyone to help us keep warm. This was a great group of people which included 4 new AOC members. I am looking forward to future adventures with everyone.
There will certainly be other events as part of the AOC Survival Series, so watch for "Learn" or "Adventure" type events. Thanks to Laura Vandewiele for all her help setting up this event.
