Sat, Feb 27 2016 - Big Creek Greenway Sunset Hike and Optional Brewery Tour (View Original Event Details)
|
We enjoyed perfect weather and excellent cameraderie during our sunset stroll on the greenway. Despite our large number (18) everyone arrived on time (early, even!) so we took off right away on our adventure. We had the path mostly to ourselves; the few joggers and cyclists we encountered all offered friendly nods and waves. And avoided crashing into us.
We kept a steady pace, stopping first on the bridge to watch the creek splash along, and later to catch a glimpse of deer snapping twigs and flicking their white tails as they trotted by. As the sun dropped lower in the sky, birds twittered good tidings to one another as they settled in to roost. Squirrels kicked up dry leaves to hide that last acorn of the day, while a frog plopped into the marshy wetlands beside the greenway. The faces of freshly-bloomed daffodils glowed in the dusk that slowly settled around us.
After we officially ended the AOC hike, nearly everyone joined us for a brewery tour and tastings at Jekyll Brewing Co. Our convivial group took over the place, sending out subgroups to the lounge area, in front of the live music stage, and of course taking turns in line for the next sample. The trip leaders held court at command central, offering up snacks, sage trail advice, and laughter. Finally, about half of our group closed out the night with dinner at Burger-Fi. Thanks to all of you for a wonderful event!
