Sun, Feb 21 2016 - Morning Hike at Sope Creek (Paper Mill Entrance) (View Original Event Details)
|
We had six brave souls who showed up despite the threat of rain to hike at Sope Creek on Sunday morning. As it turned out we had terrific weather for hiking! The skies stayed cloudy and kept the temperatures mild and we only had a light misting of rain off and on during our hike.
Our approx. 5.35 mile hike took us down into the Cochran Shoals area and back up into Sope Creek, where we decided to try a new side trail that did not appear to be very well-traveled. It took us down to the river bank where we scrambled our way over rocks and trees along the shore before finding a barely-there trail that led straight up the hill. The group was game for it, and we climbed and bush-whacked our way vertically until we connected back with the main, much wider trail at the top.
The extra exploratory portion of our hike added a little time to our adventure, but everyone agreed it was a fun bonus! Thanks to the group for having such a great attitude throughout and making it such an enjoyable morning. Hope to see you all again soon!
