It was a great day in the N GA mountains. As predicted, there was a minimal chance of rain, with no measurable accumulation and we only had about 5 minutes of some neat looking snow pellets. Even with the cooler weather, the tough ascents had everyone sweating and down to a single layer of clothing.
We were a couple weeks early for full bloom of the trillium. although we still saw thousands of them... just not yet at the large size they eventually grow in this lush area. We made our way to Ga's 10th highest peak, Double Spring Knob, allowing those checking off 4,000+ footers to add another notch. Lunch was at a great overlook giving us views of Unicoi Gap, Tray, Brier Creek Bald, Rocky, and many other mountains. On the way back we saw some of the largest yellow buckeye trees in the southeast, and then a difficult to get to waterfall to top things off. A challenging, but rewaeding day.
The group... minus Elvi who was playing it safe by staying on the embankment and to Tony T. who was graciously taking the photo!
