Sun, May 29 2016 - Sweetwater Sunday Endurance Hike (View Original Event Details)
|
The parking lot at Sweetwater Creek was practically empty when our 8 am hike began (which was not the case when we finished after noon!). The cool temperatures of early morning quickly gave way mid-morning temperatures in the high 80's. Our plan was to do a big loop into the McIntyre (??) trail system next to Sweetwater Creek, but fencing now prohibits hiking through the old neighborhood trail; so we had to do an in-and-out instead, which took up most of our hiking time. Erica kept us going at a good pace, with a few stops to see some special places that she has discovered along the river. Our special sighting was a tiny fawn that appeared to be just a day or two old. It held still, just as its mother instructed . . .
Erica and some others in the group decided to add to the 11 mile hike by adding the Red Trail and the Yellow Trail for another 6 miles. Wow . . . ~ Joyce
