Write Up:What a difference a day makes! Today's hike was 100% on the trail, and what a beautiful trail it was - - lush forests, pretty little creeks, easy footing, and a comfortable lunch meadow. Plus, we got to see the noteworthy Gannett Poplar, a giant tree that stands 100 feet high and 18 feet in circumference. It was spared from destruction when most of the other hardwood trees in the area were cut down for lumber. It is an impressive sight to see and worthy of a name! Half way through the hike, we stopped for lunch in a clearing at the top of the mountain, where several tree stumps provided individual benches to sit on. On the hike back to the trailhead, we hear large rumbles of thunder nearby, but we made it back to our cars without a drop of rain. ~ Joyce
