Sat, Sep 3 2016 - Tour a Working Farm! (View Original Event Details)
|
We had a great day on the farm. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by Shalley who escorted us out to the pasture and introduced us to the alpacas. She explained how a natural diet and free range grazing maximizes the animals' health, and described the shearing process. We then wandered across the field to catch up with David, who was educating another group about humane farming practices. We got up close and personal with some Katahdin sheep before moving on to view a herd of water buffalo.
After our hike around the verdant fields, we made our way down to the farmhouse to enjoy some delicious homemade Brunswick stew and peach cobbler. Most of us purchased some Carrell Farms meats to take home, including steaks, Bratwurst, breakfast sausage, as well as Buffalo Gal skincare products made with water buffalo tallow.
