We Dauset Trails adventurers had an unforgettable good time together on this 18th semiannual AOC retreat at the lovely nature preserve near Atlanta. Kudos to everyone for bringing such a variety of delicious food & refreshments to share - plus camp stoves and other useful gear and supplies. A big pat on the back to all who helped prepare and serve our group meals all weekend and pitching in to keep our spacious dining pavilion neat and clean.
Saturday morning after breakfast most of us enjoyed a leisurely walking excursion from our campsite to to the Nature Center's famous Wild Animal Trail, Museum, Tree ID Trail, Lotus Pond and "antique Barnyard." We got lots of great photos including the gorgeous pink & white lotus blossoms that luckily were in full bloom.
Most of us also enjoyed hiking the lovely 3-mile connecting trail between Dauset Trails and Indian Springs Lake and Village, where numerous treats reward visitors. These include the beautiful rocky creek at the Indian Springs State Park entrance, historic restored buildings, botanical gardens and ICE CREAM!
Despite the afternoon temperatures being a bit warmer than average for this time of year we felt very lucky to have such gorgeous rain-free weather for the entire 4-day weekend! Each night we enjoyed socializing around a blazing campfire - also sky-gazing, with beautiful views of such heavenly delights as Jupiter, the Big Dipper, Polaris, Arcturus and a few bright meteors.
