Sun, Jan 29 2017 - Longleaf and Big Poplar Loops at FD Roosevelt State Park (View Original Event Details)
|
We couldn't have asked for a better day and a better group of hikers today. The views at FD Roosevelt State Park were amazing! On this clear day you could see for miles! We saw many brooks and springs, a bib poplar tree that was struck by lightning (and survived), and HUGE pinecones as big as your hand.
And there's nothing like a good walk in the woods with old friends and new friends to lubricate the conversation. We hiked almost 16 miles (some hiked a bonus distance) and averaged at least 2.7 MPH. And thanks to everybody for making this 2nd trip leader training hike a success (especially to the Jedi Master hiker Lisa for guiding this young Padawan learner). Hoping to see the pics that many of you took on our AOC Facebook page soon.
