How great to have Laura E. back as a trip leader! She handled the hike like the pro she is, giving the group a view of the hiking plan, maintaining a healthy pace, keeping a watchful eye on the group, and showing all of us all the great sights the area has to offer.
The 8.8 mile hike was really enjoyable on this overcast day. It was perfect for pictures, so pictures I took! The trail itself was full of beautiful views, rock formations, and challenges. Recent rains made the trails slick, so descents were a little tricky.
We met an area resident, John Henry Watson, who hiked a portion of the trail with us. And it was nice to welcome two relative newcomers to the AOC - - Rick and DanR (NOT Dan R.). Hopefully, we'll see a lot more of these two able hikers.
The West Overlook Deck, the fire tower, and the Stone Wall were added pluses to the normal Gahuti Trail hike - - well worth the added .8 miles! ~ Joyce
