Write Up:The Cherokee spirits were kind to us as they held off the predicted thunder storms so we could enjoy a needed lunch on top of Blood Mountain. We even had a few breaks in the clouds to view spots of full sunshine on the sea of undulating green on distant mountains. The hike provided varied experiences ranging from leisurely steady incline along Slaughter Creek to rock laden fields of stretch and strain on Freeman Trail. Except for a couple of giant rock overlooks higher up we were treated to the consistent feel of a summer hike in the Southern Appalachians with lush underbrush shaded by towering old growth forest. It was a nice way to spend Father's Day for a couple of us. It was an enjoyable experience for all of us to be out (and up) in nature among our hiking friends.
