This week's LTM hike had a few surprises.  The first surprise was the new addition of more fruit trees on the backside of the meadow. There are now fig and apple trees planted with the pear trees.  Some of the apple trees even have small apples on them.  We knew about the pears that appear in the springtime, but now we can look forward to more evidence that marks the changing of the seasons. Second, we noticed a big blue heron at the south end of the pond. This was a first. And third, we all learned that Trish can get distracted, go at way too fast a pace and then even go nine minutes over the allotted hike time. This caused us to cover well over six miles even after she promised only 5.5.  This was also a first. My apologies to all it harmed and a big "well done" to everyone for surviving this brutal challenge. I did not hear one complaint until it was over. You guys ROCK!  ~Trish
