Write Up:

We made the most of this gorgeous autumn weather with an extensive tour of the Cochran Shoals and Sope Creek trails near the Chattahoochee River. After warming up on the gravel trail along the river, we plunged into the woods and climbed steadily until we reached the little graveyard. We followed the connecting trail between Cochran Shoals and Sope Creek, only slowing down a little for some scrambling along the creek. No one landed in the creek, so, success! Then it was past the paper mill ruins, around the pond, and up and down the hilly interior of the park. We did a couple extra loops to increase our mileage before heading back to level ground and the parking lot.

This was a fast-paced hike with just a couple very brief stops. Everyone stayed together remarkably well. We got really good at dodging the obstacles that came hurtling around the bends with little notice. We were like Pavlov's dog when we heard the warnings: "Bike!" or "Runner!" or "Dog!" or sometimes even "Runner with a Dog!" All in all, it was a great way to spend a Sunday morning with a fantastic group of people.
