Well the weather was a bit dicey when we started with fog and some light drizzle but before we ended, the sun peeked out. We attacked Pigeon Hill right out of the parking lot with John (in training) bounding up the trail. He even did a few extra steps when he zagged when he should have zigged.
We made the top of Little Kennesaw in good time after a brief stop at French's Rock. Next up was the big down to the saddle between Big and Little Kennesaw. Then the final ascent to reach the benchmark at elevation 1808 feet. We lingered a while and took photos on top and then headed down to the Visitors Center.
After a water break, it was out towards Camp Brumby where we learned a little about the former CCC camp that operated there between 1938 and 1942. We finished our hike by heading out the Brumby trail where we dodged some wet spots before taking the Pigeon Hill Cutoff and down to the cars. Final stats, 6.5 miles, 1204 feet of gain in about 2:45 hours.
Finally a special welcome to three relatively new AOC members on our hike today. It was Becky's 3rd event, Jennifer's 2nd event and LeeAnn's very first AOC event. Welcome to all of you. ~ Holt
