Sat, Jun 27 2009 - Chattahoochee River Kayaking (View Original Event Details)
|
What an awesome day we had kayaking on the Chattahoochee River. The weather couldn’t have been better.. The temperature was in the mid 90s, the sun was blazing, but the river was only 52 degrees helping to keep us cool throughout the day. Due to the water temperature, we didn’t do any swimming (at least not on purpose). We traveled a little over nine miles in about 4 hours, stopping a couple of times to stretch and snack. Our first stop was at a small beach at a bend in the river. We found 20 or 30 golf balls that had been washed down stream but were unable to make the turn. Our second stop was at Picnic Rock, about the halfway mark, where we ate lunch.
There were several rapids that we encounter on our journey. All of them were before the lunch break. They were small but still big enough to give several of our kayakers a challenge (swimming anyone?). The second half of our trip was all flat water.
We had a wonderful group of people. We all enjoyed the conversation and the scenery as we made our way down the river. A big thank you goes to Tony and Jaime for co-leading this event and doing an excellent job. Thank you Tony for the pictures.
I hope everyone had a good time on the river and I hope to see everyone on another adventure soon!
