Sat, Nov 17 2018 - Hidden Gems of Piedmont Park + optional nearby Movie: Free Solo ascent of Yosemite’s El Capitan! (View Original Event Details)
|
Janis, Amanda, Judith and I took advantage of the balmy blue-sky weather this afternoon and enjoyed checking out the "wilder side" of Piedmont Park together, including the "Six Springs Wetland" and an unfinished portion of the Atlanta Beltline. We capped it off with a leisurely stroll around and across historic Lake Clara Meer where we had nice views of a Great Blue Heron, ducks and other wild critters. Just after the hike Amanda and I walked a couple of blocks southward from the Park and took in the Midtown Art Cinema's midafternoon showing of "Free Solo." This heart-stopping National Geographic documentary film covers the first 3000' solo ascent of Yosemite's legendary El Capitan - without the use of ropes! - by an amazing young world-class rock climber, Alex Honnold.
Special thanks to Judith for posting a colorful collage of her hike photos from today's event to the AOC Facebook page. - Submitted by Charlie Sun night Nov 17th
