Thu, Mar 7 2019 - Kennesaw Around the Mountain Hike (View Original Event Details)
|
A great day for our hike around Kennesaw Mountain with 19 hikers who were ready for the challenge. We started with a heart pumping dash up Pigeon Hill before heading out to the Brumby Trail, taking it all the way to the Visitors Center. After a short break it was out the 24 gun trail where we learned a bit about the Union 24 gun artillery battery that sat on a ridge below Little Kennesaw Mountain during the 1864 battle of Kennesaw Mountain.
I changed up the approach to the "Big Field" from the usual trek. This time we visited a little know bit of the park property where several old farm buildings still stand. We also visited a former home site set back in the woods where there were hundreds of daffodils spread around marking the former home site. We finished our hike with a creek crossing where most (but not all) of our hikers made it across with dry feet. Finally we reached our cars and the end of our hike which clocked in a little less than 8 miles.
A special welcome to Suzy on her 3rd AOC event and Connie on her 2nd. We look forward to seeing you on future AOC events. ~ Holt
