This is a gem of a trail! It's a well maintained equestrian and hiking trail in Waleska, GA, about an hour's drive from the north side of Atlanta. The trails and facilities are exceptionally well maintained by the Friends of Garland Mountain. They're wide (for horse traffic) and rolling, with dense woods throughout the trails. There are accurate trail maps available online and clear trail signs at all the intersections. The trails are named for horse breeds, including Sorrel, Palomino, Dun, Bay, Piinto, Chestnut, etc., with directional indications via horseshoes pointed in the direction of the trail. Etiquette for passing horses is posted, with the horses definitely having the right of way. We covered over 7 miles of trails, though as of now, over 19 miles of trails are hike-able. Plans exist for even further development of trails. It will be nice to return there to try out some of the other trails that we didn't hike on today.

After the hike, all of us gathered for lunch in the pavilion by the parking lot. We all brought our own lunches plus something to share, so we feasted on stuffed grape leaves, honeydew, trail mix, grapes, deviled eggs, homemade banana muffins, homemade cookes, brownies, pistachios, and oranges. What a great way to end a hike! ~ Joyce
