Heat and humidity is our theme for now and until the unforeseeable future!  We started our hike on the warm up hill - really, do we need to "warm up" on a day like today??  Susan started off in front with Allen giving her a run for her money.  But Susan quickened her pace and made it up the hill first.  Let's not discount the fact that Allen was carrying a 40 lb. pack so we will call it a tie!!   We maintained a nice steady pace. We covered the trails of Island Ford taking in the natural air conditioning of the river.   We also went to the  tail of the lollipop trail and that enabled us to come back through the woods vs the road.  Allen hammered several rebars with his sledge hammer and also trimmed away a big poison ivy vine.  We also welcomed Ryleigh, a relatively newcomer to Island Ford. Thanks again for making the Island Ford one of the best hikes, if not the best hike, in Atlanta!!  Next week, we will celebrate July 4th - wear your red, white and blue!!
