Write Up:Another awesome day in the Georgia wilderness! Ten strong hikers and 2 dogs started
the day early from Vogel State Park to try to beat the heat. Everyone did a great job on
two very tough ascents. We had a few short breaks along the way to hydrate and rest,
including regrouping for lunch near the intersection between Coosa Backcountry trail
and the Duncan Ridge trail. After refueling, the group left our lunch spot to start the
long, rough descent to our second crossing of GA 180, then to take off for the second
difficult ascent up to Slaughter and then final descent to finish up the day. Everyone did
a great job and had a lot of fun, even in spite of the hot, humid day which threatened to
made a tough hike even tougher. Along the way, we talked and shared and laughed,
while supporting one another to succeed in our ultimate goal for the day. We even
shared the trail with a few ultra runners and bears along the way.
Not everything goes perfectly on every hike, so many thanks for everyone’s flexibility
and teamwork to our entire terrific group: Gary, Jasmine, Brian M, Ann, Ralph, Steve T,
Cathy, Becky, Mike P, Steve H, also pups to the Kody and Bailey.
