Wed, Jul 3 2019 - Johnson Ferry North / Hyde Farm - Creek, River and Pond Walk (View Original Event Details)
|
We sure picked a somewhat swealtering day for a hike but there were no complaints from our group of 19 hikers. We started at the Johnson Ferry North trailhead and walked along the Chattahoochee river first. After crossing a water main we headed into the woods where we got into nature. The trails for the first half of the hike did have quite a bit of poison ivy but everyone was careful to avoid it. We did our second climb of the day arriving up in front of the Powers/ Hyde house. We learned a little about the history of the two families (the Powers and the Hydes) who lived in the house from the late 1830s until the last of the Hydes died in 2004.
We next circled the lake outside of the Hyde farm gate and then followed the Mulberry Creek for approximately one mile. Along the way, we crossed th stream about 10 times but the water was low and the crossings were easy. We finished our hike by following the trail by a rather large pond but the area wildlife seemed to have been in hiding (perhaps because of the heat). We arrived back at our cars, ending our 5 mile hike in 2 hours. ~ Holt
