What threatened to be stormy and loud, turned into a damp and relatively cool day, though heavy and humid.
Allan Wadsworth deserves a co-lead, as he took us on 3 side ventures to explore. First was the New Manchester cemetery, with only unmarked gravestones--very humbling. Pictures included, with 2 deer watching (can you find the second one?)
Next, Allen D took us to the pre-war rock quarry down the brown trail, and then Allan W. took us up Butt Buster Hill the other way on the Brown trail to the ruins of a cabin and chimney, perhaps from the 30's.
Finally, Allan W took us to the Ferguson burial site above the original mill site near the Factory Shoals Bridge and the original mill site.
We crossed the river for a nice tour up the East side with lots of toads and noting the gorgeous chestnut oak on the Yellow trail near the top.
