I had to go this one alone, as Carol had a touch of food poisoning and had to drop the hike. Thankfully, the group was small and everyone was well-seasoned, so that we all drank plenty of fluids and electrolytes and had no problems on the hike. We kept the pace very moderate throughout the hike, which also helped us prevent dehydration and heat exhaustion.

We went up the Hike Inn Trail and separated into two groups so that those who wanted a faster pace up to the Inn could be free to put on some speed. Five of us ladies comprised the second group, enabling us to have wonderful "girl talk" all the way up.

Instead of returning via the same trail, the group agreed to cross the connector trail and return via the Approach Trail. On this half of the hike, extra energy had been burned off so that the group of nine stayed together.

It was really a fantastic hike. The temperature was hot, but with a little lower humidity, no one felt overheated. We enjoyed getting to know each other, which is something that isn't possible with large groups.

And, we got to see Larry Cooper who was working in the kitchen today! ~ Joyce
