Wed, Sep 18 2019 - Cochran and Sope Creek Double Header (View Original Event Details)
|
With a break in the heat we had a nice cruise through Cochran Shoals and Sope Creek. We didn't make it to the mill ruins, but we did get in 7+ miles, and lots of good visiting. We were honored to have first timer Larry Korchan with us, and the fuzzy picture documents his hike. Next time, maybe we'll go out to lunch afterwards!
Nature Note: the pine tree die-off just west of Columns Drive is pretty dramatic, and greatly opening the canopy. Lots of logs across the hiking trails too. In the coming decades it will be interesting to see what fills in. Were these woods once dominated by pine?
P.S. I set up the Google Photo Album so anyone can add pictures. Feel free to try, and let me know if you have any problems.
Great to be in the woods with you today.
