We had 15 hikers for today's somewhat rare (for me) weekday afternoon hike at Gold Branch.  We criss crossed Gold Branch and along the way completed 4 climbs up to the backbone ridge line.  It was a beautiful day for hiking with our first hints of fall in the air.  We did see a bit of wildlife during our hike including some turtles and a banded water snake who dashed across the trail between us to get back to the safety of the river.  All in all a great day for a 4.5 mile, 2 hour hike.  ~ Holt
