Wed, Dec 11 2019 - Pine Log Creek - In Search of the Frog (View Original Event Details)
|
On the drive to Pine Log Creek we saw snow and frost on the summit of nearby Pine Log Mountain. Our weather was a bit better, although it was still in the low 30s for our hike start. After the approach trail, we reached the west loop trail. We did the loop clockwise so as to get the biggest climb out of the way first. The terrain was beautiful with our trail switchbacking up a rather steep gorge. Upon reaching the highest elevation, we stopped to take the opportunity to drop a layer or two of clothing.
Next, a big descent, passing numerous abandoned logging roads, we then connected with the east loop which we did counterclockwise. We reached the old CCC quarry and took a snack and water break. We then completed the east loop before finishing the west loop. We crossed Pine Log Creek on a somewhat unique wooden bridge and then shortly thereafter we reached the parking lot. We covered 5.3 miles in about 2:20 hours with an elevation gain of nearly 900 feet. ~ Holt
