Wed, Feb 19 2020 - Interstate North Trails of CRNRA (View Original Event Details)
|
The weather cooperated so we were able to get in our hike at Interstate North. The trails were muddy from all the recent rains but people came armed with hiking poles so no falls today. We started out on the multipurpose trail before crossing the swamp on the boardwalk. The wetland water level was surprisingly low as the CRNRA has been trying to keep the beaver dams cleared.
We did most of the Interstate North trails before moving over to the Cochran Shoals section for a couple of miles. We did make a brief stop at the ruins of an old home sitting up above the trail which made for an interesting sidetrip. We walked along Terrell Branch for about a mile, enjoying the strong flowing creek before reaching the multipurpose trail once more.
We finished our 5.5 mile hike in about 2 hours. A special welcome to Rita who was on only her second AOC event. We look forward to seeing you on future AOC events. ~ Holt
