Write Up:This doesn't happen often, but I raised the D-rating on this hike to a D3. The group went super-fast, finishing the hike in just short of 6 miles. (Some GPS readings said higher!) Our moving pace was over 3 mph, because we took several water breaks. I shared the lead with both John and Russ that gave me a chance to "draft" behind the front of the group. We moved, we breathed hard, and we sweated in the summer heat, but no one whined and no one gave up. (Maybe folks were too busy breathing to complain.) This was a difficult hike!
Congratulations to our newest member, Lee, who checked with me before registering to ask if I thought he was fit enough for the hike. Based on recent past hikes, I felt confident that he could handle our usual "semi-fitness" pace. He rose to the occasion and actually managed today's true fitness pace on the hike.
Thanks to Russ and John B. for helping to maintain the pace up front!
Well done, Group!
