Even starting early for our hike at Gold Branch was not enough to compensate for the hot and humid conditions we encountered.  There are six "spokes" at Gold Branch (trail segements that go up and down between the river level and the central ridgeline) and we hit them all this morning.  Along the way we did a little exploration and saw some old farmer terracing in the woods, along with some stone walls and what appear to be well sites.  We also saw lots of wildlife including turtles, deer, ducks and blue heron.  We finished the approximately 5.4 mile hike in 2 hours.  ~ Holt
