Thu, Oct 29 2020 - Thursday Morning Hike at Island Ford - NEW TIME! (View Original Event Details)
|
It was not a good day. My power went off at 4:30 am (and it's still off on 10/30 at 1:30 pm). The hurricane toppled trees on Shadowlawn and Paper Mill Road, cutting off my first two attempts to get to Island Ford. Then, after a big re-route, Azalea Drive was closed, forcing me to detour all the way to Holcomb Bridge Road down 400. (Holcomb Bridge had a 5 minute delay as a light pole was being fixed.) Despite leaving almost an hour early, I was still going to be late for the hike.
Fortunately, Russ S. was on the hike, so I called him to ask him to go ahead and start the hike. Lee was stuck in traffic and still not at the park, and no sign of Sue M. I was able to meet most of the group as they came around the pond. Lee was just driving up the road, Jeff G. met us on the trail, and Gerrilyn dropped off with an upset stomach. So 7 of us did the hike!
We had to bushwhack a couple of times due to trees blocking the trail, but otherwise, the upper trails weren't bad. (I heard that the river trails were pure mud!) We passed Erica on the trails, so I was able to a happy picture of her.
Right now, I'm in the parking lot outside the East Cobb library, using their internet to post pictures. One more day (today) to complete the 10-days of hiking in honor of the nurses in Thailand - - an event dear to my sister Doris's heart. She's had a lot of dealings with nurses over the last several years as they treated both my mother and her husband, Charn. I was happy to participate in the virtual event with her, but glad this is the last day! One more hike to go!
More than you cared to know . . . I know. Frustrating times.
