Thu, Nov 12 2020 - Thursday Morning Semi-Fitness Hike at Island Ford (View Original Event Details)
|
Recent rain dampened the trails, but they were quite passable, except for the stem of the lollipop trail that had enough water to force us to turn back. Needing to extend our hike, an executive decision was made to explore a route on the opposite side of the entrance road that would eventually take us back to an official trail off the road.
When we got to the upper parking lot, we were greeted by a group of AOC renegades who had already completed the lollipop portion of the trail. We took a short break to talk with our friends, and posed for a big group photo (taken by Steve F.).
We tackled the warm-up hill at the beginning of the hike and at the end. Dan C. was an easy King of the Hill on the first ascent; Belinda and John tied for first place the second time we made the climb. Our slower "safe" pace got us back to the parking lot at 5.6 miles. (Lee's GPS track wasn't started until after we hiked around the pond, so it's a bit short of our final distance.)
Thanks to Lee and Dan C. for their welcomed contributions to the album. ~ Joyce
