Fri, Dec 25 2020 - Christmas Morning at West Palisades from Akers Mill Road Entrance - (View Original Event Details)

It couldn't have been a better way to spend Christmas morning if we couldn't be with our families. Though the temperature read 26 degrees when we started, it didn't take long before we felt warm and toasty. Even the wind didn't seem to affect us on the trails. The sun was bright, and the park was relatively free of people. Even the traffic on the way to the hike was minimal!
Some parts of the trails were still muddy from yesterday's rain, and the main steep trail through the park has really suffered from erosion. It has become downright dangerous in places! Thankfully, no one slipped or fell.
During the hike, Allan spotted a deer up on a ridge, and as we all looked one after another deer ran to join the others. The herd had at least 8 deer! What a magnificent sight, but they ran too fast for me to get a picture.
After the hike, we had a Christmas celebration with cookies brought by several members and hot chocolate for everyone. Jennifer and Neil couldn't make it to the park on short notice this morning, but they joined us for our cookie/coco party. Jennifer not only brought homemade goodies, but she brought bags for everyone to take cookies home in. It was so nice to see her and Neil even though they couldn't hike with us.
Merry Christmas to all. Friends are the best gift at Christmas. ~ Joyce
