The day started out downright dreary, with overcast skies, damp air, and a decided chilliness; however, we all knew that once we started moving, we'd warm up. Not only did we get warm fast, but eventually, the clouds gave way to brilliant sunshine, making it perfect hiking weather.
We took a bit of a different route this morning, walking through the Sibley Forest subdivision so that we could take in some of the Christmas yard decorations. Even without nighttime lights, they looked so festive!
Where have I been? I just learned about the famous "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" song during our hike! One of the yard decorations featured what appeared to be a hippo. It turned out to be a rhino, but that didn't matter. It triggered the memory of the song, which Jean was able to play several times throughout our hike. How could I have missed hearing a song that everyone else knew?
This was Casey's 199th AOC hike. We're hoping the rain later in the week won't force the cancellation of his 200th event on Thursday! ~ Joyce
