Write Up:Sweetwater Creek State Park is always a favorite of mine and today did not disappoint. I had planned on starting on the white trail but there was a 50K (31 mile) running event going on so elected to start on the yellow. Headed down to the creek, crossed the bridge, did the orange trail, explored a bit on that side of the creek, came across the roller coaster hills (a hike that I did many years ago which was a killer - no roller coaster today). Got back on the yellow trail, back over the bridge, red trail (which is everybody's favorite) we had just missed the kayakers which would have been wonderful to see. We ran into them going the opposite way on the trail carrying their kayaks and gear, looked like they were heading back to the Manchester Mill just to shoot the rapids again but we couldn't wait around for the show. The river was raging as it should have been after recent heavy rains. We then picked up the white trail, there were still runners on the trail but it was the most direct link back to our cars. Overall we got in just under 9 miles in just a bit over 3 hours. Welcome new AOC member Hailley and her dog - I hope I get the name correct - CAPTAIN HUMPERDINK. What a name. And a first for me we met a cat along the trail with the name TOULOUSE. Also my first hike with Tricia S. (A long time AOC member) Thanks to Lee W. and Shirley W. for the delicious beef jerky and the magnificent photos of Sweetwater.
