We got a tad of a rocky start to our hike when a police officer pulled up to our cars at the Sope Creek Elementary School parking lot to tell us only school personnel were allowed to use the parking lot (for security reasons). Despite my gentle questioning, we ultimately had to leave and park at the official lot just 1/2 mile down the road. Fortunately, everyone arrived early, so we were ultimately able to start our hike on time! (The officer was super nice, and fun to tease a bit.)
Our hike remained in the Sope Creek unit, where the trails were beautiful and dry. And we were all alone on our hike down to the ruins.
The rest of the week will be rainy, so we were grateful for today's lovely weather. ~ Joyce
