Mon, Apr 5 2021 - Johnson Ferry North / Hyde Farm - Creek, River and Pond Walk (View Original Event Details)
|
We had a great day on the trails at Johnson Ferry North and Hyde Farm. We started by heading out along the banks of the Chattahoochee where we saw plenty of flowers including Trillium. Next we headed over to the Hyde Farm property where we walked along the base of the ridge the Powers Family homestead sat on. We encountered a few trails that were closed for a construction project but that did not stop us from getting our hike in. We rerouted and headed up to the ridge top where we visited several farmer terraces and the Powers Family homestead. Then we headed to Mulberry Creek where we followed it downstream, crossing it perhaps 8-10 times.
When we were along the stream it felt more like we were in North Georgia instead of Metro Atlanta. We crossed Mulberry creek one last time and then started heading back into the Johnson Ferry North property. Following the former farm road, we passed several ponds where dozens of turtles were sunning themselves on logs. Then it was a dash back to the cars and the end of our hike. We covered about 5.5 miles in 2 hours exactly. A special welcome to two new members of the AOC, Drew and Trevor W who were on their very first AOC event. Drew and Trevor, we look forward to seeing you on future AOC events. ~ Holt
