Sat, Jul 10 2021 - Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park Trails Work Days (View Original Event Details)
|
We split into two groups with one group working on trail issues almost to the top of Little Kennesaw, I haven’t seen the pictures on what they got done. My group was working just above the switchback going up Little Kennesaw. We were converting two bad steps into five nice steps than trashing out the social trails on either side of the “real” trail (see before and after pictures). We tried to keep the large number of people hiking today moving. However, we ended up having to shut the trail down for a minute or two several times as we were moving large rocks into place or finishing stabilizing a step as hikers approached. After finishing this large project, we moved down to the stitchback. We moved the fencing so that it followed the trail (see before and after pictures). For those wondering, the write up shows we parked at the Pigeon Hill Parking Lot. Yes, we did carry our tools from the Pigeon Hill Lot to Little Kennesaw giving us not only a hike but also a workout for our arms.
The weather held and both groups got a lot accomplished. It did start raining while Bill, Bob, and I were unloading the tools from the pickup truck back at the tool shed.
