Sat, Aug 14 2021 - AT Section: Dicks Creek Gap to Bly Gap (View Original Event Details)
|
Twelve of the club's strongest hikers left Dicks Creek gap heading NOBO on the AT at 9am on arguably the toughest and most remote sections of the AT in Georgia. The goal was to reach the Gnarly tree at Bly gap for lunch over the border in North Carolina. With 18+ miles and 4,800 ft elevation, add the heat and humidity, this was a challenge. Luckily, water was flowing in all the right spots, so filtering was possible, and dehydration was not an issue. Everyone did great and we all had an amazing and enjoyable day. Not many views on this stretch due to the abundant tree cover, the "green tunnel" has its own beauty and given the clear, sunny day, that was welcome to reduce the heat. A few thunder claps as we reached the end of our hike and the rain and overcast sky cooled us a bit while we got into our cars to leave.
Welcome to two of the club's newest members, Rustom and Keith, who honestly handled this one like old pros. Looking forward to seeing them out these again on the next event.
