Write Up:We AOC bicyclists had an unforgettable good time this morning with our friendly and incredibly knowledgable hosts from the GA Audubon Society: Jonah McDonald, Joy Carter and Ken Boff. It was fun having about a dozen other "fans of fine feathered friends" join us, including a matched pair of talented 10-year old twin girls with their mom & dad. The outing included several well-chosen stops along the parks' PATH boardwalks & paved trails, etc. where we temporarily parked our bikes and did the actual birding on foot with our binoculars on nearby single-track hiking trails, open fields, etc. While exploring portions of Medlock Park and Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve as well as Mason Mill we enjoyed observing and discussing more than 30 different species of beautiful wild birds, including cardinals, bluebirds, woodpeckers, herons, geese, sparrows, wrens & numerous other songbird species. Got a kick out of identifying many of them solely by listening to their distinctive calls. The outing also included discussions of the fascinating wildflowers, trees, dragonflies, mushrooms, etc. that we encountered while birding. - Posted by Charlie Sat afternoon, July 31st.
