Mon, Oct 25 2021 - Johnson Ferry North / Hyde Farm - Creek, River and Pond Walk (View Original Event Details)
|
We had a great group of 12 hikers for our hike at Johnson Ferry North and Hyde Farm this morning. We started at the Johnson Ferry North trailhead and began by taking the trails along the Chattahoochee. Then we headed west and into the Hyde Farm property which is owned by Cobb County and which is planned to become an interpretive center sometime in the future. We did an up to reach the ridgeline before descending back to the river level again.
We next headed to the Morgan Falls Dam where they were releasing water, creating a loud thundersome sound of rushing water. Next we headed back to the Powers/Hyde house which was built in the 1830s, serving both the Powers (of Powers Ferry fame) and Hyde families. Hext it was down to Mulberry Creek and its 9 stream crossings. Lastly we took the trail at the base of the ridge in the Johnson Ferry unit before reaching the parking lot, and the end of our hike. We clocked in at 5.2 miles in almost exactly 2 hours. ~ Holt
