Write Up:A great hike! 14.4 miles, 2.5 mph moving average, and 3300 gain. We did cross Darnell Creek, that water was cold! Invigorating! Not too deep - below the knees. Onward we continued paralleling the creek until we reached the Bartram trail. Upward and switchbacks, a saddleback, and then upward to the Bald. We enjoyed a brief lunch before the cold started settling back into our bones. There is a saddleback to warm us up on the return. And then the creek, a spectacular waterfall, the water crossing and finish. Tims first time on Rabun - I am sure there will be more to follow. A cautionary note - if you don't know this trail - it would be difficult to follow unless you had a track or a guide (as there are intersecting trails).
